Scott gave a compelling presentation about Facebook, and their HipHop PHP compiler/transformator. He had the guts to demo it live on stage, which was really cool. Nothing speaks for a project like running the same codes four times as fast :)
Scott handled the tricky questions like a pro, when asked what happens when the generated executable crashes.
Rowan gave a great talk about his project where he applied Bayesian Filtering to his Twitter timeline. I really enjoyed the open discussion and the jokes in the presentation.
Great talk. Very nice to meet you after hearing and reading your name so many times.
Made me aware that catching up with my unit tests is going to be prio 1 over the next months.
It was a nice panel, but I would have like to see more discussion between the members. Some more controversial questions would've worked to this effect.
Great, introduction to the new NoSQL databases, I enjoyed the way Matthew described the possibilities of these database systems without neglecting the strengths and weaknesses of both.
Made quite a few notes, the pittfalls sounded familiar. Read some on that in Ivo Jansch's book about Enterprise PHP development.
I think you repeated yourself quite a bit, which made you run out of time, you have some optimization to do there :)
I liked the visual profiling information **very much**. I would have loved to see that being generated and practical guiding on how to accomplish that. Maybe a beginners' desire to see this in action, but it would have stuck better I think.
Great to have met you, I read your guide on PHP security when I was preparing for PHP 4 certification (yes, long ago) and you got me fascinated.
Thank you!
It's a very promising project, I'm tempted to give a spin soon.
Matthew's talk was a great add-on on the couchDB biased talk of David. Both talks where my personally reasons to stay for the saturday events. And it was an afternoon well spend. I see where the fuzz was all about, and yes.. Storing your data as an object in the DB actually makes sense! Sure there are still a few bridges to conquer.
On the personal level, Matthew is a very confident and natural relaxed speaker. Would not mind attending some other talks by him, he has a certain way of peeling the layers down to the part that really matters, the core! Awesome!
Guess what, some of the shit actually stuck, and it wasn't even fluffy! Nice refreshing way of stating all the obvious things i learned way back in presentation courses :)
I agree with Benjamin (beberlei), so I am not going to repeat that.
Also admired your choice of graphics. It made your slides very enjoyable to watch.
You spoke in a very clear and pleasant voice which contributed to the overall pleasant experience.
