Talk comments

Seriously shocking talk. I was amazed how wp.com can actually allow their Dev team to exercise such practices. Working off the trunk, hundreds of commits from any developer onto whole platform, etc... Every company I worked for would simply say "No f. Way"... But then again the approach although risky (or even insane) had a lot of good thought put into it. I will definitely research the ways of Deep Pink :)

Interesting topic. I wish I thought of this question during the talk - What other uses this solution could exercise? The obvious ones were covered, also I got the impression that due to the fire-and-forget nature of the XMPP protocol the whole solution was quite unreliable in terms of handling network related issues. One way of working around it - would be to poll the backend again if there was no reply within expected timeframe, or short-polling the backend, but that sort of defeats the point of the solution again. Am I missing something obvious here?

I was expecting a scientific approach to methods of handling big data on the web. I feel bad giving negative feedback - but instead of giving a talk on principles of how such system would work - it would be way more interesting if we could see some code, hear about the obstacles during development and decisions behind the project. I understand it was Speaker's debut hence 2 points but I was expecting more hands on or at least scientific approach. Sorry James.

Good talk from a guy who was obviously very experienced / well prepared. Really good that there were also suggested uses for the new features, along with potential pitfalls.

Sounds like useful messaging solution but not sure whether it has a future once the browsers all get their web sockets in order. Didn't sound like it would scale that well for short poll scenarios

Interesting subject and presented well. I'll. Have to have a play

I found this talk very interesting and useful for some upcoming projects. I need to spend time on the problem before seeking a solution.

I really enjoyed the talk. I read the pragmatic learning and thinking book and it was good to see concepts from here applied to coding.

I definitely feel like I need to grab pencil and paper and start experimenting now with the problem domain. Good use case with the running app and great slides.

A good talk to end the day with. Leaves you wondering if you want to work for big organisations. If I learnt anything it's do what you love and stay doing it.
