I joked with Joel that his talk could be summarized as:
"You're sheep for thinking you can learn at conferences and should be taking recreational drugs to make you a better programmer".
The desire to keep learning new things is the difference between programming as a job and programming as a career. Great talk.
An extremely difficult subject to try to go over in 45 minutes. I think the content was a little bit rushed, but with that said, it was delivered in an EXCELLENT way, and the points were communicated really well. Overall a fantastic talk.
Good info on Phing. Could have used more of an intro on "what it is" other than "Ant for PHP" for those of us not familiar with Ant.
The slides had humorous images but the presenters tone at least for me didn't encourage laughing at them.
The speaker didn't seem to know the content of his presentation very well, often taking long pauses to read his own slide before commenting.
While there *was* a lot of information, but I think a 10,000 foot view "Here is the problem this is trying to solve" and "here are some real world examples" would have benefited this a ton.
It was felt very rushed and dry.
A large portion was just config files with very little actual explanation of WHY you would make certain decisions about your database. Moreover a lot of it was 5.6 specific which in practical terms is a way out for a lot of people. Really could have benefited from a basic "Here's what we're talking about, here's why you'd go this route, here's why you shouldn't, etc"
Good talk, the speaker had an excellent understanding of the topic. However it seemed like this tool didn't have much use for sites without pretty insane amounts of traffic. I was trying to find ways to apply this to more common situations. Thanks for all the info anyway
Fantastic talk. Engaging, confident style coupled with code and good explanations. The very end felt rushed, which was to be expected since Adam was squeezing a longer talk into a shorter timeframe. I would've loved for this one to be a double session. The parts about code smells (e.g. inappropriately sharing private parts!) was entertaining while at the same time quite informative.
I am guilty of liking WordPress too despite the consequence your first couple slides showed off people's standard reaction to it. Thanks for your great insight. I learned a few things in your presentation that made the whole conference worthwhile. Especially wp skeleton and gitftp.
I was confused by this speaker. He told me what replication was, but I still feel like I have a lot of leg work to know how and when to use it. The handouts were a nice bonus. Hopefully I can learn more from them. Most of the room seemed like they were db ad mins though and could grasp the blitz of slides better.
Thank you wass very interesting and informative.
