Seriously impressed with the architecture of WayFair. Impressive speeds and even more impressive talent in the development department.
I thought this was a good way to kick-off the conference. To show the diversity by which such a large organization uses the PHP language and the possibility for us as a developer-group to integrate open-source standards and adhere to strict guidelines, is an inspiration.
Speaker did a good job, and the topic was interesting. Very detailed, heavily technical presentation which was a great change of pace for the day. She did an excellent job of making a solid presentation out of one feature and took questions very well.
The only downsides: there were a few parts which came across as simply reading a manual page to us. Also, the actual use cases for this feature were not as well fleshed out for a PHP crowd, I just didn't see any benefit to running MySQL events vs a cron task which is far more flexible.
Good talk, very well presented. Easy and natural even when dealing with technical problems at the beginning.
This is a good overview of how to deal with common situations when leading a team. Some of the advice about dealing with types of people was a little too short or shallow, but I thought the tips for creating a good working environment and the questions you should ask yourself were spot on.
Great talk, good introduction to a tough topic. The only problem I saw was that the speaker often forgot some points that should have been in his notes and rather than skipping or moving on, he would try to remember when he was already running overtime.
Good presentation but the talk was just too darn short. I thought we were simply passing the introduction when, woops, the talk was over!
The speaker had a lot on her plate this day but it was a good topic and I wanted to see more!
Good talk, I liked the speaker. The only thing I would've preferred seeing is more exercises to try and take home advice. Also, perhaps some detailed diagrams and explanations about proper desk setup.
The talk was interesting but did not have any practical content. Rather than simply seeing a list of OSS projects at NASA, I would've enjoyed hearing about the interdepartmental challenges and strategies used to bring everyone on board; it could've been a great case study.
The presenting and slides were good if just a touch bland and tended to wander a bit.
Great tutorial given the time constraints. Not only how to create the plugin, but also how to style your code the "WordPress" way. And he even threw in a few "you bet'cha"s and "don'cha know"s or whatever it is they say in MN!
By the way, for the other reviewers, don't blame something that's not the speaker's fault and then give him 2 stars. This rating system is supposed to be for evaluating the speaker and providing feedback.
Ilia is a great speaker! It was amazing to hear someone who works so closely with the development of PHP describe the changes from a ground level. Very impressive and informative.
