Tough to rate this talk. Speaker definitely gave an interesting introduction to geolocation coordinate systems and related relevant issues. He also provided a very good overview of openstreetmap (apparently a valid provider alternative to Google) and its capabilities. This surely offered very good hints and most likely saved a lot of headbanging. At the end, my rating is so low though, because of 2 shortcomings, which I consider rather serious. The major one is not having adequately taken into account PostgreSQL (offering a lot of useful built-in geolocation features). The second (minor) is the quality of the presented JS code. Which I consider too important within the scope of a similar talk to be completely ignored. Interesting presentation nevertheless. With a few integrations it can definitely express all of its great potential.
Awesome ending for a good conference. Good sense of humor and very inspiring.
Sandwiches were very good.
I definitely agree w/ jach. For myself also, probably one of the best talks I've ever attended. Great speaker presence, useful content. Not much to add. Just make sure you find the way to attend this talk at your next conference.
This guy's presence on stage is simply amazing. Good jokes and change of pace managed to always keep the attendance alive (as others pointed out, even too much at times :-P). Topic's also been very interesting and he managed to convey all important aspects about XML, Json and YAML; he definitely made it clear when it's most advisable to use each one of those and avoid poor technical choices.
Interesting talk on a (frequently) daunting subject. Kore managed to spot important areas of concern and also warned about some common pitfalls (IE conversion between encodings, multibyte unsafe functions and so on). Definitely useful info for everyone. A few more practical examples (esp. on the db<->app data exchange) wouldn't have hurt, but I've definitely enjoyed the talk. Recommended
Topic was definitely interesting and presentation outline's been definitely well thought and organized. Speaker knew what he was talking about and you could easily perceive that. Also, the usage of a real world example, has been very helpful. Due to a "flat" presentation style, speaker hasn't been able to always keep attendance attention to an high level though. Some jokes or even just changes of pace would've helped a lot. Also, at a certain point, when the speaker asked whether there were questions, he didn't notice people politely raising their hands, and only gave answers to those calling for his attention aloud. I think this contributes to encouraging wrong behaviors, which is not good (very personal point of view though). I'm sure that working on these communication "issues" would bring MAJOR improvements to an otherwise great talk, with lot of potential.
Probably not very used to speaking in front of an audience, but I didn't really mind. I had the feeling the speaker knew his subject very well. The examples were good and practical.
Good overview about which pain points in ZF1 will be tackled in ZF2. Too bad there wasn't much enthusiasm radiating from Rob; maybe because we're still in an early stage of development.
Great keynote! Some very interesting points to start a discussion on how to move yourself and your team forward!
