Good talk.
I enjoyed the explanation of how compilers work and the differences between them.
It was a shame the movie crashed at a certain point, and the magic show didn't really match with the audience IMHO. Maybe if it where of drastically higher quality, or more of a humor/comedy style, it would have been a lot better.
That aside, the presentation was well in order, the sponsors were appropriately thanked, and the raffle was smooth!
It was a thorough, clear and fluent talk about the subject. Beau is definitively a great speaker.
I did feel like the actual content could have fit in a talk half it's length. There was quite some repetition where I felt like "yes, I got it already". Maybe throw in some examples, some information on common pitfalls, and for developers it would be great to see some actual code that reflects the story.
Good talk, I enjoyed it.
A couple of weeks ago I was discussing the same topic with a colleague of mine.
We both agreed this is a good way to improve and grow.
Thumbs up.
I especially liked the fact that Toon was clearly exited about the subject. It's always fun to see that people really in to functional programming become these mad giggling characters, drooling over the elegance of what they create, and I mean that in a good way! It's always great to see such passion!
Although I have no experience with functional programming, I could follow everything just fine. It was clear and well presented. Together with some other talks it inspired me to start playing with some LISP as well.
Ow, and I liked the style of asking a question and answering it yourself. I really completes the mad scientist thing :) Keep that in and keep it up!
I really enjoyed this talk! Good presentation, clear subject and fluently done. I especially like the message to not try to outsmart a compiler by thinking up some generic solution to address scaling issues, but actually pick up a profiler and fix your own mess :) I would highly recommend this talk to anyone who's interested in improving scalability!
I'm also looking forward to some future features of Recki-CT, especially the one compiling PHP to PHP (with optimizations), I'm very interested to see what some of my projects would look like after it's done :)
A really impressive talk on an inspiring subject. I've already started some little experiments and am bound to loose control!
There where some moments where the talk felt a bit chaotic, as if it wasn't well rehearsed, especially at the beginning. But this wasn't the first talk by Mathias I've seen and others were perfectly fluent. So maybe the social the night before is to blame, or that he had some voice issues for which he apologized in advanced.
All in all definitely a talk to see if you want to work on you soft skills!
Good introduction to Neo4j.
I would like to see a little bit more use of Neo4j together with PHP, or at least this was my expectation.
For someone who never used it at all, this could be a good starting point.
A very fluent and clear message on why broadening your field helps you become better at what you do! I really enjoyed this talk. Although I'm definitely not a 1 language guy, I'm going to spend some more time on other things.
Good talk, the speaker delivered a clear introduction on ubiquitous language, why it is important and how to use it.
