Very good talk. Entertaining, informative with very clear code examples how (not) to do it.
Definitely one of my favorite talks from this conference.
Interesting to see how a project like phpBB is using Symfony to slowly migrate piece by piece to a better code base. As my opinion of phpBB was mostly based on 2.x and it's security related issues, it nice to see a case study on how such a large codebase can by migrated to something better.
4-thumbs as i do feel the prep could have slightly better (a review of the slides) and would have liked a more uniform way of presenting the code instead of screenshots cropped in different ways.
Great talk. Good flow, nice pace. Very solid introduction to elasticsearch.
To bad it started slightly late because of technical issues as this meant the talk was cut slightly short.
I don't have i feeling i missed anything, and i guess i can google the rest.
On a completely unrelated side note, i noticed you have an 'Flemish' version on speaker deck, would have loved to see you do that one ;)
For an introductory talk it might have been a little code heavy.
Especially with it's specific broadway implementations. This meant that while looking at the code, you had to figure out how broadway did things and understand what message the speaker was trying to convey, sometimes in a very short timespan.
I did think the speaker as very knowledgeable about the subject and that showed in the talk.
Note: I was running low on energy while attending this talk, so i might have missed something.
Good talk, definitely something to look into to actually start using.
I did feel like trying to cram the basic principles of both BDD and DDD into a 50 min slot was a bit too much, but maybe that's just because my prior knowledge of the two wasn't up to par.
The talk, while basic, was really well delivered and very entertaining. I absolutely loved the cartoons and the humour Juliette put into the talk.
For the target audience I think this was the perfect talk to get them on the road to using the rich quality toolbox that PHP has and to enable people to write better code and know where they can improve.
I do think that some indication as to the level of the talk would have been good, as a lot of the material was stuff I had already looked into and so was more of a recap rather than an introduction.
Still, a great topic, really well delivered and if you haven't started your code quality journey this is a must see to get you going.
Good talk on technical dept and how to avoid it.
While the solutions given were fairly basic, i think that shows it shows that there really is no excuse to not ensure we manage our dept.
Personally, i would have liked some more focus on the 'how do i get my manager onboard' and less on the specific tools (although a 'here's a list of tools to google' is useful)
Nice background on php internals and type declarations (hints).
Try to avoid hitting the mic next time.
All in all, very entertaining and enlightening talk.
Well presented talk and knowledgeable speaker.
I did have trouble keeping my full attention on the talk at times due to 'flow', although most of it was probably out of the speaker's control for lack of airconditioning and mic.
Great intro into how BDD, DDD work from a project management as well as a technical perspective. Ciaran gave good examples of how to get the requirements and then turn them into the Behat and PHPSpec code.
Ciaran's delivery was clear, confident and I found the pace just right. If you're interested in these technologies and want to see how to apply them (and when not to), this talk is definitely for you.
