Great information.
I thought this was a very good talk, maybe I generally like Ben's approach based around pragmatism and standards rather than an emphasis on "do A, B and C and your API will be awesome." I would have liked to see some more specificity, either in code examples or in case stories (1-2, given that's only an hour), but I got a lot from this talk regardless.
Excellent!
I liked how Rasmus touched on his initial open source experiences in releasing PHP to the world 20 years ago. I also enjoyed his observations on why people contribute to open source. As usual, his content was spot on, covering his own personal benchmarks, as well as new features coming in PHP 7.
I thought this was a great introduction to running PHP applications on Heroku. A previous comment mentioned the wifi issues, so I agree that finding some way to help attendees get up and running quicker without waiting on download time would be ideal.
Really great topic, and Ryan is an excellent speaker. So much good here, inspiring, The easy & simple distinction felt a little artificial though, and Ryan himself tripped on it a few times in the talk. The distinction is a good one, but maybe make it in another way? Still, the talk was great regardless.
Also (as I tweeted yesterday) I keep wondering about the relationship of documentation and developer trust. For example Laravel has pretty good docs, but there are some undocumented bits that come up surprisingly often. Once I realized that, I started distrusting the docs, which detracts from the DX Laravel otherwise excels at. Not to criticize Laravel or Ryan here, just a thought that this talk brought up for me.
Eryn is an amazing speaker and presenter, and I enjoyed how the talk told a story. It inspired me to write better talks and tell better stories. Thanks for sharing!
Good talk on Unit Test with PHPUnit. I particularly liked the sections on mocking, and code quality metrics.
Awesome talk. Amazing amount of actionable info in the short time available. Exactly what I was hoping for.
