I had some high expectations. But it was something like a web tutorial. I couldn't see any added value.
Maybe some ideas;
I would expect some ideas regarding to use Go with PHP. It was more like why a company should use another language instead of only php to get things done.
Nice to see a tradition starting. We can always get new insights from wise people and traditions or other professions.
Being the 34th person to comment on this, I've scanned the list as I was thinking about what to write. I allow myself to do that when I've already decided on a rating - and this was a no-brainer 5-thumbs-up**
Never have I seen such a long list of exclusively 5-thumbs-up. Never before was it so deserved imo. This talk goes to the very core of being a human and bringing out the best in yourself, on a practical level.
I always try to add a single tip or improvement to the talk ratings, even when I like them. But in this case, there is simply no need to change anything...
** in fact, I'm contemplating doing a pull-request on joind.in to add another thumbs up *just* for this keynote
I share the same thought as Ike Devolder
Excellent story, very well brought. I really enjoyed the look at HHVM/Hack and its incredible development tools (Hackifier, wow!) and I love Hack for pushing PHP to innovate. Incredible to see the presenter's love for PHP, even though she works on HHVM.
Easily one of the best talks of the conference!
Nice talk, good story-telling skills!
Not sure if I agree with the premise though. If you replace the word art with creativity, I completely agree, but that would make for a less spectacular talk... :)
Anyway, well done exploring a difficult subject from an alternative angle, it made me think and I enjoy that.
@Henry Snoek : from the show of hands, roughly 75% of attendees were still running 5.3 and older in production. I suppose if someone's already running 5.6, they wouldn't attend the talk.
I'll make sure to include more on the new functionality planned for PHPCompatibility for a future talk.
Very interesting and insightful. What I found especially interesting was the explanations about compiler types and the way they are able to optimize. I envy the speaker's knowledge and his ability to transfer it (and respond to tricky questions).
Not a bad talk by any means. Perhaps slightly heavy on bullet points and light on new things (seemed a bit like preaching to the choir). Could also do with some hands on tips on how to find open source projects that are worth the time. Nonetheless, keep up the good work promoting open source, without it PHP wouldn't exist!
It was really important to hear some different ideas about excsting short living dogmas in the PHP world. Like the god singleton.
