An excellent introduction into a complex and confusing topic.
Great inspirational talk by an industry icon.
I really liked the practical examples and code shown in this talk. It was helpful to learn more about why you do things and what kind of impact it can make. One suggestion would be to make the code samples a little larger on the slides so they are easier to read.
Thanks for your feedbacks!
@Adrian the backward compatibility was important to me as I didn't want to rewrite everything. I needed the step to step approach in order to be able to deploy new finished migrated features while working on the migration. I wasn't able to work everyday and 8 hours a day on my migration. So I wouldn't want to put shut the website down. For my personal use case, this approach was the best.
@Evan thank you!
@William I still need to improve my English but I work on it each time I speak at a conference or give a training.
@Brian Thanks for your feedback.
I'm thinking of publishing the code on my Github account at some point. Probably when I will have finished the migration with the new remaining features (twig, assetic...).
Jeff has it all man, great sense of humor mixed with smart slides and content.
Overall this talk just reinforced my aversion to the symfony. IMHO Silex, has a ton of ceremony involved for what is supposed to be a simple microframework. Ben did preface this by saying that Silex is a good first step into the symfony ecosystem (for better or worse) and I think he's right on the money there. Overall a good talk.
Great talk, a very clearly laid out and practical walk through of MySQL Replication. As someone who hasn't been all that familiar with replication, I now feel like I have a good practical understanding of what's going on. Excellent mix of practical and technical! Very well done!
if i could complain about anything it would be that the power outlet situation was a bit difficult at first. the room was also pretty loud and it was somewhat hard to concentrate as many people just used the room to socialize and get access to the pizza =].
would i do it again? definitely
Typical Cal, very inspiring and encouraging. We're very lucky to have Cal and people like Cal in the community.
Definitely an awesome talk. A must see for every professional developer. Legacy applications are something we all need to understand, and this talk presented it in a really easy to follow format...
