I got more out of it than just explaining about expressive tools and things that I will be needing to use.
Obviously security is a huge topic to go through but I am appreciative of the practical ways presented on how to identify and prioritize which areas in our own system to secure.
Lots of information to digest but concept is easy to follow from the talk. I like how real-life insight was integrated as well but sometimes Amrita’s voice would trail off at the end and hard to catch the comment or answer.
Great starting off point for those just starting at looking into how to apply security in their architecture.
First, I very much appreciate having this Q&A session available and am grateful for the panel who brought insight and shared their experiences and for Justin Reock who did a good job hosting.
That being said, my takeaway from this was that "diversity in the workplace" and gender bias has not changed much since my career began 25 years ago. Although the message of "we must keep trying" was clear, the fact that no one was able to cite a specific example of how diversity programs have changed their workplace was somewhat discouraging. Possibly if the panel had been able to prepare answers it might have been more inspiring.
And perhaps I am more "experienced" than some with the history of sexism in technology, but I couldn't help but feel that this session was marginalized by being held in a separate room during lunch. I do understand that if women want improved standing then they have to make the time to work on it, but in order to do that we were asked to sacrifice valuable networking time at an already short conference. I apologize if this is happenstance, but I recall the panel happening in the main room with all of the conference goers last year, so the optics just didn't seem great to me.
Again, thank you so much to RogueWave and ChickTek for having this discussion - it is fantastic that you took the time to offer this talk at all and it is great to know that this is an issue that is finally making it to major tech venues. Please keep it up!
This talk covered a lot of material at a level not too complicated for newbies like me. Cody is very knowledgeable about the topic and both went into detail where it was warranted, and touched on many great points for further research.
The talk followed a logical progression and was clear and understandable. Great job - I would love the slides to share with my team!
Thank you!
I loved this talk - it was a fun and inspiring way to kick off the conference. I'm so glad to have started out this way! The concepts Thijs discussed helped me to think about a plan for my time at the conference and to say yes to opportunities!
Thijs is a fantastic speaker and his personal stories illustrated the points in the discussion and made them easy to relate to. I feel like I got just as much out of this talk as the technical ones - thank you! I will be taking these ideas back to my team, and looking out for more from Thijs.
Great job!
A nicely informative session covering the many changes from PHP 5.6 to PHP 7.0 and some impressive tools (PHP_CodeSniffer/PHPCompatibility) in automating the migration process from older PHP apps to 7.x. Really useful stuff!
Really interesting service you built! Thanks for the overview of technologies and their plusses and minuses! Definitely helpful for seeing what fits into my projects the best.
This session really helped me get closer to understanding the importance of how using a blockchain will benefit so many business processes. Lisa did a fantastic job presenting the technology within such a short time frame. Understanding how bitcoin works was very helpful. My favorite example to help me understand the blockchain concepts was when she said the blockchain is like the operating system and that bitcoin is an application on it. I would like a copy of the slide show that she presented. I also talked with Lisa at lunch and enjoyed how driven she is to really understand any subject she is researching. I look forward to taking her Lynda.com courses on security.
