A fuzzy introduction to the command and interpreter design pattern that could have been a lot better structured. The title of the talk was very confusing and I was expecting a mature talk about the architecture of task oriented user interfaces, not about a few technicalities in the code that stem from using such interfaces.
Some personal advice for Stijn... A bit more studying and practicing, you are still young, the architect already hides in you, but must be cultivated a bit more. Keep it up!
A very nice intro to software craftsmanship.
I really had a great time during this workshop. For me it was the highlight of the conference. Josh knows how to give a workshop, that is clear. The workshop material was also OK. A pity the Arduino Yun boards had some problems, but if everything works as advertised and you just have to copy and paste the example code then there is no learning involved.
Really cool! Thanks Josh!
This was a very helpful, hands-on and well organized introduction to Mongo-DB. The overview of different non-SQL databases was very helpful. What I missed was more of a discussion about SQL vs. no-SQL. What are criteria to choose no-SQL vs. SQL? Sending out the instructions a few days earlier might be helpful and allow people a little more time to prepare. Days before a conference are often extremely busy.
Overall this was a very helpful tutorial by a very competent presenter. And, it is always nice to meet some of the core developers behind software that we are using every day. Thanks!
Sara is always entertaining and so very awesome. Loved the bait & switch ;)
Great talk! The talk started with a very helpful introduction to file systems and challenges in dealing with them. This explained well why an abstraction like Flysystems is helpful. The talk was well presented and easy to follow. Thanks!
I had never worked with a NoSQL database before but after this workshop I'm sure I have a solid foundation to start implementing this in a project.
Only negative comment I have is that a lot of people were unprepared, that took at least 45 minutes and it distracted me a lot.
I could not follow the talk really well. I have no practical experience in DDD and was hoping for a good introduction. Unfortunately I could not understand the examples the presenter was giving because of my lack of theoretical knowledge.
My rating seem to have disappeared after editing my talk: 2/5
Thanks for the talk last Saturday.
For your first talk I think you did very well.
Some small critics: I missed some code samples though.
I understand that it's hard to fit all of the code on a slide, but you could switch from your slides application to your code editor and show samples from there. I've seen this with another speaker Friday morning too.
When attendees ask you questions, it helps to repeat them through the microphone (for attendees in the back of the room). Fortunately I was sitting more to the front ;-)
Anyway, I found it a good talk.
Can you please upload your slides to Joind.in?
Thanks,
Stijn
A very nice talk with a correct pace and sense of humor. I really liked the simulator, that really added a lot to grasp the concepts.
