I liked hearing about the crazy way folks at github run their business and the parts where people were using repos for their own projects was very entertaining. But I will admit that I was not sold on the concept of using repos for things like legal and other business departments. If we want the biz types to use github will need more ammunition on selling them than a few videos as they are already overwhelmed with tools.
Awesome! I am now probably dangerously under-informed about search and sort algorithms because Rowan made it so simple to visualize how they work. What a cool talk and if it were given by anyone else at the end of the day I would have fallen asleep.
Perfect presentation style and delivery. I think that the topic was a bit overwhelming for some folks but was sufficiently baby-stepped so that any php dev could get something out of this talk.
As Paul knows I'm a huge fan of his style and substance. This talk had a lot of meat on the bone with examples that didn't overwhelm but got the point across. This talk has inspired me more than some others to start physically segregating my modules. I'm now a bit more interested in trying auto components as well since many will now work in php 5.3.
Loved your talk Cal. As a first time PHP conference for me I'll say you wrapped it up great for me.
Excellent keynote and a fantastic note to wrap up the conference. Cal delivers an energetic definition of characteristics a professional developer should exhibit. I especially liked Cal's no-nonsense approach to dealing with a situation you are uncomfortable with as either find a way to enjoy it or find a new place to work, but never give your team less than your full effort.
Overall a great talk that is easy to remember and should last in the minds of anyone who hears it. If you want inspiration, Cal delivers it.
Bonus: I leveled up my Klingon.
Rasmus presented and extremely clever and dead simple technique for atomic deployments which made this worth hearing alone. As usual rasmus has an entertaining style and its interesting to hear about his perspective.
This was a good talk, however I was also *hoping* for a few more advanced testing tricks as someone who has been in the cults of tests for years myself. I will say that the folks who are new to the religion seemed to really enjoy it. I'm really looking forward to what grump has rolled up his sleeve.
Numbers can be boring, but when they become metrics that tell a story it gets really exciting. I really like what Anthony did comparing metrics on some popular open source projects and look forward to his continued work in this area.
One of the best, if not THE best talks I've ever seen. This masterpiece of public speaking was a joy to behold. Rowan was able to weave a cohesive narrative around the concept of improving professionally as a developer that really hit home for me at this stage of my career. I laughed, I cried and I got angry and I left feeling like I learned a ton about how to improve and the importance of self-awareness. Cheers sir!
