Well delivered talk, good slides and glad to see SOLID mentioned. Made constructing readable, maintainable code seem simple with things to look out for (smells) on the one slide and tips on setting your own coding complexity guidelines as well as sharing his. In my case it mainly served to reinforce knowledge I had already gained on the topic (I really wish I'd seen this talk before researching the topic myself as it was much more concise and to the point).
Hey Jakub,
Despite this obviously been your first time speaking and being in such a long and daunting room, you pulled through and delivered useful content that will inspire people to check out Symfony2 themselves.
The content of your talk was good enough and you just need to focus on your execution of talks which can only come through experience.
Good job all round.
Cheers,
Paul.
Hey Igor,
Arguably the best or second best prepared talk of the entire conference (that I went to). When watching a talk you can tell how prepared someone is, execution was perfect I felt.
Your use of humor was perfect, not too much that people got distracted by it, and not too little that people switched off.
Coming from someone that already checked out the project in advance, I still learned a few things.
Constructive feedback:
What would be beneficial to other people would be the system requirements to run React on their server. Also it would be good to see benchmarks with installing the extensions to see how much of a benefit it is, and how fast you managed to scale React to.
Cheers.
Paul.
Well paced and engaging incite into how BBC handles scalable, responsive design/architecture on an on-going basis post web-device explosion. Raised the issue of how important active analysis of how your services are being used is.
Hey Derick,
Great talk with lots of great and useful content. You explained very well the reasons WHY people should be using DateTime stuff instead of the native procedural functions, because it stores information on the TimeZone too which is critical.
The only constructive thing I can give is that your code examples (the results) are in dark purple with black text on top which is highly unreadable. I could read the rest of your slides just fine but I couldn't see the results at all which meant I could only see half of the puzzle. My suggestion is that you use a lighter color such as #CCC or #F8F8F8.
Pleasure as always.
Paul.
Funny and well delivered talk from an excellent public speaker. Rowan covered AWS deployment including some warnings on costly gotchas during initial setup. Took away some good knowledge, although the content did feel a little 'crammed in' to the time available.
Jakub presented well despite being a little nervous. Great intro to Symphony, especially for those who don't want to re-factor their whole project in order to take advantage of the various components.
Well delivered talk showing the highlights of 5.4. If only I'd realized the usefulness of the built-in web server prior to Fridays hackathon I might have saved some time getting set up locally.
Engaging, inspiring an fun talk, great kick-off for the weekends events.
Hey Thijs,
Arguably the best or second best executed talk of the conference (that I went to). Your presentation skills are excellent and your use of enthusiasm, humor and delegate involvement within the talk were excellent.
The content of the talk was excellent and regardless if the viewer knew anything about varnish or not you had a lot of real-life information and examples within your talk.
I'm trying very hard to think of any constructive feedback to give but there really isn't any, so I guess that's a good thing.
Cheers,
Paul.
