First time I've seen Hugo live. Impressed by his knowledge.
I know Twig and I use it, but thanks to Hugo's talk I now know how this all works internally. And I learned some nice tricks too.
What I would like to see in the future: more real world examples (I know, this sounds so cliché). Maybe you could feature some common cases where templating is required and you could compare classic PHP with Twig (and Smarty). That would certainly prove the power of Twig.
Good job, Hugo!
For me personally, this was en eye opener. Igor has built up quite some reputation and the stuff he does is somewhat avantgarde. The talk is a perfect example of that.
For me, this was the best talk on the schedule. But I noticed people would like some more real world examples. I agree, so please work on that soon, there are conference organizers "watching" ;-)
Ade is such an amazing speaker that manages to get the attention of the crowd, that manages to entertain and get his points across while doing that.
Ade is a very well-rounded speaker and I'd love to see more of his talks.
Great talk! Any chance you'll be adding the slideshow?
I found this very interesting. I got the feeling the speaker knew the subject area very well but maybe struggled to get it across. I don't agree with Derick, for me the f-bomb was the highlight of the talk. This talk made me realise i need to explore this subject some more.
I missed the begining, first thing on day three was not a good time slot. I think this might be the third time i've seen Rob discuss this subject, and as always it was well presented. Good overview of the subject but with ZendForm there is soo much to cover and we seemed to run out of time. I was hoping for a use case of when you would or would not use bindOnValidate, guess i'll have to read the docs. I will be looking for the video of this so i can go over it again at my usual slow pace. Well done Rob, keep up the good work.
Gave a basic overview of what twig is with some breif comments about why you should use it. I'm not sure i'd use it though. I have a feeling there would be a performance hit. Something else for the processor to do before the page could be rendered. Maybe that benefts wern't driven home enough. Just my opinion.
It was interesting to see that people are doing this stuff. I imagine it must be a very exciting project, being there are the birth of a new language. I have to admit though i failed to see what they were attempting to achive that cannot be done with existing languages. Maybe i missed that part. Still very interesting and look forward to seeing how it develops.
Yes shame this wasn't a full session, there was so much more to cover. Well delivered anyway, it's not easy to stand up in front and deliver a talk. You did a great job and obviously know the subject area.
Great talk apart from the aforementioned issues with the slides. A real world example would have been useful especially with stats on memory usage. I'm looking forward to reading the slides again and trying some of the techniques describes.
Also, thanks for introducing me to APM. It's already helped me debug a tricky bug on one of my sites.
